Challenging the young talents with app competition

The cable guyThe Oslo Medtech management team challenged 5200 young IT talents gathered on «The Gathering 2012» at the Olympic skating arena Vikingskipet in Hamar. CEO Kathrine Myhre and CMO Cecilie Nordbø spent much of the Easter Holiday at Vikingskipet. Myhre explains why: "We wanted to meet the talents at The Gathering to create awareness for the health sector's great need for IT skills", says Myhre.

She met the crowd of young die-hard gaming developers to ask them for help to create mobile applications for use in the healthcare sector. Oslo Medtech in cooperation with Regional Research Fund «Hovedstaden» launched a competition where the 1.st prize of NOK 50 000 plus up to NOK 250 000 in pre-project funding.

April 30th is the deadline for participants to send in their concept proposal for a health app.
 
Laerdal Medical were also present at The Gathering, this time represented by the management of Oslo Medtech on behalf of Laerdals Frederik Hansen. They arranged a competition for the young IT talents, testing and competing in saving lives, using the new resusciation-training manikin of Laerdal Medical.
«We were positive to this initiative because we wanted to find out wether these young gamers would gain interest in and try out our resusciation-training manikin with the new gaming facilities», says Hansen.

According to CEO Kathrine Myhre the competition with the training manikin was very well received, the people were engaged and enthusiastically took part in the informal competition. “This was an interesting experience for us, because we got the opportunity to show our products
to an audience we normally do not meet”, says Hansen.

Enthusiasm is the word to describe the Oslo Medtech launch of the app competition. so far around 15 candidates have signed up for the competition.
«We have received lots of positive feedback, people have startet to sign up for the competition and we expect more to come before the deadline 30. April.» says Kathrine Myhre.

More about the competition
Mobile healthcare relates to use of smart mobile phones in various health applications that can give citizens better access to and control of one’s own health information. Or such apps can help strengthen the health sector and making it more efficient. New health applications can be the key to new healthcare services, profitable both for society and for app developers.
With the competition «Mobile apps in the healthcare sector» we will stimulate development of creative and good app-soloutions to help simplify and make more efficient the everyday tasks for healthcare personnel and the aging population and persons in need of healthcare.
Candidates may apply for the competition with an idea, sketch, concept description for a mobile app which can help to improve and/or make more efficient the healthcare sector. Tenders who also demonstrates, by a prototype, how the app will function, will gain extra interest by the jury.

The prizes
Following prizes will honor the top 3 proposals:
1st Prize: NOK 50 000 NOK + up to NOK 250 000 as project financing to develop a demo app and concept for a final product. The winner will also receive offer of advice from the Investment Department at Oslo Innovation Centre, Forskningsparken
 
2nd Prize: NOK 30 000
 
3rd Prize: NOK 20 000
