Generating innovation. For better living and health.
For the first time the Norwegian Research Council has allocated funding for innovation projects in the public sector. This is a form of support that have previously been reserved for the business. The project is covering ICT solutions for the healthcare sector.
High-tech hospital The project, headed by Erik Fosse at the Oslo University Hospital (OUS), in cooperation with researchers from the OUS, the Department of Computer Science at the University of Oslo and Norwegian School of Management, shall make it easier to use high-tech medical procedures in Norwegian hospitals. "We are very pleased that the VERDIKT-program at The Research Council of Norway has found our two innovation projects with Oslo University Hospital worthy of being funded. We are looking forward to this expansion of our collaboration with the hospital within these two interesting areas", says Morten Dæhlen, Head of the Department of Informatics at the University of Oslo.
The project is based on a new treatment method used for serious heart diseases. The treatment is characterized by a simultaneous use of several different technologies, including the combination of image-assisted therapy and surgery. This requires a large multidisciplinary team, whereas the goal of the project is new technology to be used in a way that ensures good interaction. The methodology developed here will in turn be used in other, similar high-tech medical procedures. The project were allocated within the Research Council of Great program for Core Competence and Value Creation in ICT - VERDIKT.
